CalWood Fire Update

Plume of smoke from Erie of the CalWood Fire
Randy Barber

Dear BVSD Families and Staff,

Our thoughts remain with everyone in our mountain communities as we continue to monitor the CalWood Fire.

We recognize that school may be the last thing on the minds of some of our families and employee’s minds, especially those that live in the area impacted by the fire or nearby.

Please know that all of us are with you. We hope that this morning’s weather helps to slow the fire.

We are working closely with emergency responders to support their efforts in any way we can and will also work to support impacted families during this difficult time.

Here is what we know at this hour. According to the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management, as of Sunday morning, the fire has burned approximately 8,788 acres. Updates are being provided throughout the day on their website: www.boulderoem.com/emergency-status

At this time none of our school buildings have been directly affected, but Jamestown Elementary is in an evacuation area and we know that many of our families in the area have been impacted in various ways, including ongoing evacuations (again updated evacuation information is available via this map).

We are planning on Monday being a regular Launch Day (independent Home Learning), but any family that has been impacted may contact their teacher and excuse their student from instructional activities.

We will continue to access the situation and will provide additional information tomorrow (Monday) regarding any impacts to the operation of our schools or transportation in the area.
