Community encouraged to participate in superintendent search

Process kicks off with surveys - now available on district’s website

The community will have several opportunities to shape the search for Boulder Valley School District’s next leader, beginning with a couple of surveys now available on the front page of district’s website, www.bvsd.org.

Ray and Associates presented its plan for BVSD’s superintendent search to the Board of Education during a Special Meeting on November 7. The agency is planning a number of phases, beginning with the launch of two community surveys this week and hopefully ending in early to mid-spring with the selection of a finalist.

The surveys, posted on Monday, November 13 to the district website, are designed to gather feedback regarding what traits BVSD families, employees and residents would like to see in the next superintendent. 

Below are links to both surveys in English and Spanish. Both will remain open until Friday, December 1 at 8 a.m.

In the “Community District Review” survey, BVSD stakeholders have the ability to rate the school district in a number of areas including how well BVSD is addressing the achievement gap, the social and emotional needs of students and preparing its students for college or career.

The “Qualities desired in the new superintendent” allows stakeholders to specify what traits they would most like to see in the new, permanent superintendent.

The surveys, together, take less than five minutes to complete and will help to form the questions used in stakeholder focus groups and during candidate interviews.

Community feedback
At the end of November, Ray and Associates will be in town to conduct a series of meetings with various stakeholder groups representing parents, employees and the community. Additionally, a forum will be scheduled for anyone who would like to provide feedback. The meeting will be open to the public.

The search comes after the Board's decision in March 2017 to terminate the contract for previous superintendent, Dr. Bruce Messinger. In June, Dr. Cynthia Stevenson was named by the board as an interim superintendent for the 2017-2018 school year.
