Emergency Food Distribution Plan

Emergency Food Distribution Plan
Randy Barber

We know it has been a long and busy week for everyone and today has been no exception. As you may have heard, President Trump declared a national state of emergency for the coronavirus. Meanwhile, here at the school district we have been working diligently on plans on how we will continue our students’ learning following Spring Break and support those that need it in the interim.

We understand that this district closure will not be easy for many of our families – especially those that struggle with food insecurity. We are committed to ensuring that our students who typically rely on our schools for breakfast and lunch, do not go hungry during this crisis.

Emergency BVSD Food Distribution

Next week, we will be distributing bags of food that will contain several meals’ worth of shelf-stable foods along with fresh produce at nine regional sites.

On Tuesday, March 17 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 19 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., food will be available at these locations:

Creekside Elementary School
Crestview Elementary School
Columbine Elementary School
Emerald Elementary School
Louisville Middle School
Nederland High School
Pioneer Elementary School
Sanchez Elementary School
University Hill Elementary School

Identification or paperwork will not be required to receive food.

Location addresses and additional information can be found here. There is typically no food service during Spring Break, so there will be no distributions during the week of March 23-27. If the school closure is extended, the distributions will begin again.

Impact on Education is coordinating volunteers and donations to help deliver this program. If you would like to volunteer, you can signup via this link. We will be providing additional information for families who wish to donate in the near future.

Home Learning Plan

Our team is also in the process of standing up home learning resources to support our students if we are unable to return to our school buildings after Spring Break.

Between now and the end of Spring Break (March 29), students will not be given any new assignments or lessons. They should treat the time like any other break. They should finish any assignments they had, as well as enjoying the additional time off.

Early next week we will share additional details about our plan and what would happen if we are unable to return to school following Spring Break.
