In honor of Earth Day, Boulder Valley School District students and families are invited to join Bike & Roll to School Day on Wednesday, April 23rd, for a fun, active, and eco-friendly way to start the school day!

With dozens of celebrations happening at schools across the district, it’s a great time to dust off your bike, lace up your sneakers, and experience the joy of traveling to school on two wheels, or by foot, scooter, or skateboard.

Why Bike & Roll?

Choosing to bike or walk to school helps reduce traffic congestion, improves air quality, and promotes healthy habits for kids. Studies show that students who are active before school are more focused and ready to learn in the classroom.

What's Happening Around the District

Across BVSD, you’ll find festive events happening over the next few weeks, including bike rodeos, (a fun, skill-building bicycle course), group rides, and even bike buses—where students and families ride together along a planned route, picking up more riders along the way.

This month, the BLAST Bicycle Education Program is rolling out at Pioneer and Louisville Elementary, where 4th and 5th graders are learning safe cycling skills during their P.E. classes.

Community Support Makes It Happen

This district-wide celebration is made possible by an incredible team of partners and sponsors:

  • It Could Be Me, a local road safety nonprofit, is promoting road safety through its Slow Down, Stay Safe yard sign campaign. “Walking and rolling to school helps kids grow strong, confident, and independent, but it only works when we look out for one another on our roads. Our campaign encourages everyone to slow down, stay alert, and help keep everyone safe,” says It Could Be Me Founder and BVSD mom Triny Willerton. Look for the orange Slow Down, Stay Safe signs at your school.
  • The School Food Project is keeping riders fueled with donated apples.
  • CDOT’s Safe Routes to School program is spreading the fun with stickers.
  • Local law enforcement will also be lending their support to ensure a safe and successful day.

How to Get Involved

Check with your school to find out what’s planned and how you can participate. Whether you join a bike bus, help with event setup, or simply encourage your child to ride or walk, your involvement makes a difference.

Let’s celebrate Earth Day the BVSD way, by rolling to school with big smiles, active bodies, and a whole lot of community spirit!
