Indefinite suspension of bus service for Nederland Bus Route 704

Due to the ongoing critical shortage of bus drivers, BVSD was forced to indefinitely suspend one of the bus routes serving Nederland Elementary and Nederland Middle-Senior High School.

Starting on Monday, October 31, Route 704, which covers the Coal Creek and Wonderview areas, will be suspended. As an option for the students of route 704, we have added a stop to route 703 at Coal Creek Canyon & S. Beaver Creek on the SW corner at the large pull out. For any questions about the new stop, please contact the Nederland Terminal at 720-561-6241.

We sincerely apologize for the impact that this will have on the students who depend on this service. 

Please know our team has done everything possible to keep the national bus driver shortage from impacting our students. Nearly all of our Transportation team has been trying to bridge the gap and, as you may know, we have been bringing drivers up from the Boulder Terminal to help. The situation, however, continues to worsen district wide, and this solution is not sustainable. We simply don’t have enough drivers in Nederland to cover all our routes there, forcing us to suspend Route 704.

While we are continuing to try to recruit more drivers, with the hope of reinstating suspended routes in the future, the truth is that we do not see any relief in the near term. It continues to be an incredibly tight labor market, and we know some of our drivers are retiring at the end of this calendar year, so we are bracing for the likelihood of more route suspensions. 

It is important to note that Special Education routes are required by law and will not be suspended.

Again, we know that this news will come as a disappointment to many families and will complicate family logistics. We are sharing this news now, to give you as much time as possible to make alternative arrangements for transportation and have organized a few supports to help: 

Free School Aged Care and Preschool Enrichment for Impacted Elementary Students
To help alleviate the disruption caused by this route suspension, for this school year we will offer free School Aged Care (SAC) and Preschool Enrichment (PSE) at Nederland Elementary for families with elementary students who have lost bus service, starting Oct. 31. Care will be offered on a space available basis and will not impact currently enrolled SAC and PSE families. Families impacted by the suspension of bus route 704 who are interested in this free option must complete the required SAC and/or PSE registration paperwork to be eligible. For more information regarding registration and enrollment please call the Child Care Programs office at 720-561-5974.

Hiring Bonuses for New Drivers
We are offering hiring bonuses to attract new drivers to the district. Please help us spread the word that we need to hire several new drivers from the community to restore bus service. To encourage people to join the BVSD Transportation Team, the district is offering a one-time $2,500 bonus for new drivers with a CDL and a $1,000 bonus for those without! Suspensión indefinida del servicio de autobús de la ruta 704 

Debido a la actual escasez crítica de conductores de autobús, nos vemos obligados a suspender indefinidamente una de las rutas de autobús que sirve a la Primaria Nederland y la Escuela Secundaria y Preparatoria Nederland.

Comenzando el lunes 31 de octubre, la ruta 704, que cubre las áreas de Coal Creek y Wonderview, será suspendida. Como opción para los estudiantes de la ruta 704, hemos añadido una parada para la ruta 703 en Coal Creek Canyon & S. Beaver Creek en la esquina suroeste de la salida grande. Es importante mencionar que las rutas de Educación Especial son requeridas por ley y no se suspenderán.

De nuevo, sabemos que esta noticia será decepcionante para muchas familias y complicará la logística de las familias.  Estamos compartiendo esta noticia ahora para darles tanto tiempo como sea posible para planificar cambios en sus métodos de transporte, y hemos organizado algunas opciones de apoyo: 

School Age Care y Enriquecimiento preescolar gratuito para los estudiantes de primaria afectados
Para ayudar a aliviar la interrupción causada por esta suspensión de la ruta, para este año escolar ofreceremos el servicio de guardería School Age Care (SAC) y Enriquecimiento preescolar (PSE) gratuitos en la Primaria Nederland para las familias con estudiantes de primaria que han perdido el servicio de autobús, a partir del 31 de octubre. Se ofrecerá servicio de cuidado en base al espacio disponible y no afectará a las familias de SAC y PSE que están actualmente inscritas. Las familias afectadas por la suspensión de la ruta de autobús 704 que estén interesadas en esta opción gratuita deben completar el formulario de registro de SAC y/o PSE para ser elegibles. Redes para compartir transporte en autos
Las dos escuelas de Nederland cuentan con una red para compartir transporte en autos establecida a través del programa SchoolPool del Consejo Regional de Gobiernos de Denver. Bonificaciones de contratación para nuevos conductores
Estamos ofreciendo bonificaciones de contratación para atraer a nuevos conductores al distrito. Por favor corra la voz de que necesitamos contratar varios conductores nuevos de la comunidad para restaurar el servicio de transporte. Para animar a la gente a unirse al equipo de transporte del BVSD, el distrito está ofreciendo una bonificación única de $2,500 para los nuevos conductores con una CDL (licencia de conducir comercial de Colorado) y una bonificación de $1,000 para los que no la tengan.
