NCAR Fire Update

We are glad to report the situation with the NCAR Fire has improved tremendously over the past 24 hours, thanks to the hard work of the firefighters. 

At this hour the fire is 189 acres and 35 percent contained and all evacuations in the area have been lifted. At no time was the fire near our schools, and just like during the Marshall Fire, we were able to shut off our HVAC systems, which kept smoke from entering the buildings. Today we checked all of the schools in the area and all are in good shape. All portable HEPA air purifiers in schools within the area that was evacuated this weekend will be on and remain on a few days past 100% fire containment. 

Given the latest information, all Boulder Valley School District Schools will be open and operating normally Monday, March 27.

Any students or staff displaced by the fire over the weekend are encouraged to reach out to their principals and supervisors, especially if we can be of any help or to provide access to available supports.

Please know, we will continue to monitor the situation. If anything changes or if there is another wildfire in the future, we have a plan for emergencies. Evacuations are a  part of our Standard Response Protocol. You can learn more about our emergency planning at www.bvsd.org/be-ready.

We also know this entire situation was incredibly scary for those who were evacuated and live in that area, not to mention those impacted by the Marshall Fire. It may have been triggering for many in our schools. Please know that we are here to help. We will be sending additional mental health support to schools in the area nearest the fire. Please reach out to our school counselor or administrator if you need support. Families may also let us know about students who need help, regardless of where they are in the district, through this form.

It is important to note fire managers say that smoke will likely be visible this week, as they continue to work on gaining full containment. We will monitor outdoor air quality. You can see updated information by visiting the Boulder County Public Health Air Monitoring Website and the BVSD Outdoor Air Quality page, which also has information about the precautions we take when air quality is poor, including bringing outdoor activities indoors. Individuals with preexisting respiratory conditions, such as asthma, are encouraged to take precautions and monitor for symptoms. If you have a student in this situation, please work with your school health team, who can help provide accommodations.

Actualización sobre el incendio en NCAR

Nos alegra reportar que la situación con el incendio en NCAR ha mejorado mucho en las últimas 24 horas, gracias al trabajo arduo de los bomberos. 

 

En este momento el incendio se ha extendido a 189 acres y está 35% bajo control, y todas las evacuaciones en el área han sido canceladas. El incendio no se acercó a ninguna de nuestras escuelas, y al igual que el Incendio Marshall, logramos desactivar nuestros sistemas de calefacción, ventilación y aire acondicionado para prevenir que el humo entrara a nuestros edificios. Hoy revisamos todas las escuelas del área y comprobamos que están en buen estado. Se activarán todos los purificadores de aire portátiles HEPA en estas escuelas, y continuarán operando hasta que pasen algunos días después de que el incendio esté 100% controlado. 

Después de evaluar la información más reciente, todas las escuelas del Distrito Escolar del Valle de Boulder estarán abiertas y operando con normalidad mañana. 

Recomendamos que todos los estudiantes y empleados que fueron desplazados por el incendio este fin de semana se comuniquen con sus directores y supervisores, especialmente si les podemos dar acceso a algún apoyo o ayudarlos de otra manera.

También sabemos que esta situación fue muy alarmante para todas las personas evacuadas que viven en el área, por no hablar de todos los que fueron afectados por el Incendio Marshall. Puede haber provocado sentimientos de trauma para muchas personas en nuestras escuelas. Ustedes pueden confiar en nosotros para ayudar. Mandaremos más apoyos de salud mental a las escuelas más cercanas al incendio. Por favor, hablen con un consejero o administrador escolar si necesitan ayuda. Las familias también nos pueden avisar si algún estudiante necesita ayuda, independientemente de dónde viva en el distrito, usando este formulario.

Tengan en cuenta que el departamento que responde a los incendios nos ha avisado que el humo probablemente será visible esta semana mientras que siguen trabajando para contener el incendio. Tendremos un ojo en la calidad del aire exterior. Recomendamos que las personas que padecen condiciones respiratorias como el asma tomen precauciones y estén atentos a cualquier síntoma que pueda surgir. Si tienen estudiantes en esta situación, trabajen con el equipo de salud en su escuela para establecer acomodaciones.
