Recently elected Board of Education members were sworn in during a special meeting on Nov. 30.
New Board members sworn in
In District B, Nicole Rajpal replaced Tina Marquis, who was term-limited. In District E, Beth Niznik replaced Donna Miers, who did not seek reelection. Current Board member Kitty Sargent was reelected to serve in District F.
During the meeting, the new Board voted via secret ballot and elected Kathy Gebhardt, former Board Vice President, to become the new President (replacing Tina Marquis). Lisa Sweeney-Miran was elected as the new Vice President. Nicole Rajpal was elected as the new Treasurer. And current staff Board Secretary Laura Shafer was reelected to continue in that position.
“I’m so excited to work with this board. I see nothing but hope for our future and hope for our students and hope for good things to come,” said Kathy Gebhardt, BVSD's new Board of Education President.
Board members serve four-year terms, up to two terms. There are seven board members, serving seven different districts throughout the area that BVSD serves.
Thanking those leaving the Board
During a special reception preceding the organizational meeting, BVSD board members past and present thanked former President Tina Marquis for more than a decade of service to the district, including eight years on the Board, and to former Board member Donna Miers for her four years of service on the Board and many more as a special education teacher and educator.

Recall Effort Ends
Meanwhile, on November 29, Boulder County Clerk and Recorder announced that the committee that was seeking to recall Board of Education members Kathy Gebhardt, Richard Garcia and Lisa Sweeney-Miran had failed to turn in signatures, effectively ending the recall election.
Today was the deadline for the BVSD recall committee to submit their 3 petitions with sufficient signatures. As of 5 p.m. today, no petitions were turned in and our office now considers this recall effort over.

Organizers had 60 days to gather 15,000 signatures for each petition.

Los miembros recién elegidos del Consejo de Educación tomaron juramento durante una reunión especial el 30 de noviembre.
Nuevos miembros juramentados del Consejo
En el Distrito B, Nicole Rajpal reemplazó a Tina Marquis, cuyo cargo tenía una duración limitada. En el Distrito E, Beth Niznik reemplazó a Donna Miers, quien no buscó ser reelegida. Kitty Sargent, miembro actual del Consejo, fue reelegida para servir en el Distrito F.
Durante la reunión, el nuevo Consejo votó secretamente para elegir a Kathy Gebhardt, la anterior vicepresidenta, como la nueva presidenta (reemplazando a Tina Marquis). Lisa Sweeney-Miran fue elegida como la nueva vicepresidenta. Nicole Rajpal fue elegida como la nueva tesorera. Finalmente, la actual secretaria del Consejo, Laura Shafer, fue reelegida para continuar en esa posición.

Los cargos de los miembros consisten en un máximo de dos términos de cuatro años cada uno. El Consejo cuenta con siete miembros, que representan los siete distritos diferentes que el BVSD sirve.

Durante una recepción especial antes de la reunión, miembros antiguos y actuales del Consejo del BVSD agradecieron a la presidenta Tina Marquis por los más de diez años de servicio al distrito, incluyendo ocho años en el Consejo, y a Donna Miers por sus cuatro años de servicio en el Consejo y los muchos años que trabajó como educadora y maestra de educación especial.

Fin de la revocación de mandato
Mientras tanto, el 29 de noviembre la secretaria y registradora del Condado de Boulder anunció que el comité que buscaba la revocación de mandato de los miembros del Consejo Kathy Gebhardt, Richard Garcia y Lisa Sweeney-Miran no logró entregar las firmas necesarias, lo cual resultó en el fracaso de la revocación.
Los organizadores tuvieron 60 días para conseguir 15 mil firmas para cada petición.
