New Vista High School's new building is more than just a structure—it’s a testament to the opportunities that arise from a shared investment in education. Thanks to the support of local voters, a new state-of-the-art facility for the students of New Vista became a reality.
The new building will provide students with an environment where they can thrive, innovate, and grow. Principal John McCluskey and the New Vista staff seized the moment to convey life lessons that will resonate with students long after they leave the school.
“Healthy goodbyes are critical,” said McCluskey. “We’ve used this moment to teach students that even positive changes can be challenging, but with a strong community, we can adapt and thrive.”

The staff and student’s deep connection to the school serves as a reminder that while the setting may change, the spirit of New Vista endures. One teacher, Alex Robertson, attended Baseline Junior High in the old building, has taught at New Vista for 24 years, and now begins the next chapter of his career in the new space.
Flexible spaces, natural light, and areas for collaboration mirror New Vista’s commitment to meeting diverse learning styles. Dedicated spaces for advisory groups, council circles, and community gatherings reinforce the school’s cornerstone values of community and connection.
“Even in the midst of change, we won’t stray from our purpose,” said McCluskey. “For the past 30 years, New Vista has stood for innovative, student-centered education, and this new space allows us to build on that legacy for the next 30.”
The move has sparked meaningful conversations about how New Vista’s principles and practices will continue to evolve and has fostered a deeper connection between students and staff, as they’ve worked side by side to embrace this new chapter.
“While the building is new,” said New Vista Assistant Principal, Kiffany Lychock. “The foundation—our shared purpose of fostering growth, confidence, and capability—remains unwavering”.
McCluskey adds, “this is a really unique opportunity in their high school experience to be the first class in a new school building. They’ll always get to say, ‘we were the first students to walk into that building.’”
