Dear BVSD Families, One year. Today we mark the anniversary of the pandemic in the Boulder Valley School District. On March 12, 2020 – we announced plans to close our schools for what we all hoped would be weeks as our community worked to stop the spread of COVID-19. Little did we know that the road ahead would be far more difficult – with statewide lockdown and remote learning lasting for months. Today we recognize the struggles that we, as a community, have endured together. The isolation and fear of the unknown. The stress on our parents and guardians as they helped to support their children while they learned at home. Our lives on hold. The many lives lost. The past year has been a world-wide tragedy. As a school district, we have done our best to navigate this difficult situation. I can tell you that our team has never worked harder and I truly believe that their work has been heroic. Whether it has been finding new ways to teach and support students or serving more than a million meals to our families, they answered the call. You can see their stories at www.bvsd.org/about/covid-19-response. Their work has been truly remarkable. We recognize that this has been difficult on students and families. We thank you for your patience and partnership. We know that nothing about this year was what we would have wanted or hoped for – and we know that we couldn’t have done it without your support. We know some would have liked to move far faster, while others slower. The path we have taken – in step with our public health partners – has kept our students safe, while still giving them some semblance of normalcy by being in-person. The low transmission rates in our schools is a tribute to the diligence of our students and staff in following health protocols. We thank them for that. We understand that everyone is experiencing COVID fatigue and just want to get back to normal. As always, it is important that everyone remember to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help us #StayTogetherBVSD by taking these simple actions:
Avoid gatherings with others not part of your immediate household. Do not gather in large groups and do not gather indoors.
We all have learned so much, not only about the virus, but also about the importance of schools, educators and our partnership with families and our communities. As a school district, these experiences will inform our work moving forward. I, again, could not be prouder of the team here in the Boulder Valley School District and our community. We have come together during a very, very difficult time in an extraordinary way. We are All Together For All Students, now during this crisis, as well as the brighter days ahead.
