Planning for Graduation 2021

Dear Class of 2021,

I know that many of you have dreamed for a long, long time about this year and what it would be like. I’m certain that many of you thought about all of the fun activities and, of course, the culminating event of walking across the stage at graduation. 

There is no way that anyone would have imagined that it would play out amidst a global pandemic.

I know that many of you have experienced sadness and grief for those moments lost. I am incredibly sorry that you’ve had to navigate everything that has happened – but I do want to commend all of you for your resilience during this difficult time, including the uncertainty, social distancing and remote learning. 

You all have endured a lot and deserve to be honored for your hard work and determination.

Given the current trends with COVID-19 and the fact that our teachers are being vaccinated we are incredibly hopeful that we will be able to further expand in-person learning at a secondary level this Spring. And we are determined to hold a safe in-person graduation ceremony.

We expect graduation to be somewhat similar to last year. While different than a normal commencement, because of limitations on social distancing and guests, we heard from a lot of seniors and families last year that really appreciated and enjoyed the ceremonies. 

Our goal will be to once again make the events safe for all who participate – by continuing the same tried and true health precautions we have all become accustomed to by now – like health screenings, face coverings and social distancing. Last year, thanks to everyone’s actions, we had no indications of transmission of COVID-19 tied to graduation ceremonies.

For those who don’t feel comfortable coming – and for all the family members who won’t be able to attend, we will once again livestream all of the ceremonies.

We are currently in the process of working with our partners in public health to obtain the necessary variances and have tentatively scheduled the ceremonies.

Please Note: BVSD worked with public health to determine overall guidelines and offered opportunity for unified graduation site at Recht Field in Boulder. Schools then had opportunity to determine their specific plans.

We couldn’t be more proud of you, Class of 2021, and we cannot wait to celebrate your accomplishments in May.

Estimada generación de 2021:

Sé que por muchos años ustedes se han imaginado exactamente cómo sería este año. Seguramente pensaron en todas las actividades divertidas y, claro, la ceremonia de graduación que marcaría la culminación de su educación preparatoria. 

Nadie se pudo haber imaginado que esto sucedería durante una pandemia global.

Sé que muchos de ustedes se han sentido tristes y doloridos por las memorias que se han perdido. Lamento muchísimo que hayan tenido que lidiar con todo lo que está pasando, pero también los quiero elogiar a todos por su resistencia durante este difícil tiempo de incertidumbre, distanciamiento social y aprendizaje virtual. 

Todos ustedes tuvieron que superar esta situación y merecen ser reconocidos por su arduo trabajo y determinación.

Al analizar las actuales tendencias de COVID-19, y sabiendo que nuestros maestros están en proceso de ser vacunados, confiamos en que podremos ampliar el aprendizaje presencial para las escuelas secundarias y preparatorias esta primavera. Asimismo, estamos decididos a tener —de manera segura— una ceremonia de graduación en persona.

Anticipamos que la graduación será algo similar al año pasado. Muchos estudiantes de último año y sus familias nos comunicaron que verdaderamente apreciaron y disfrutaron las ceremonias, a pesar de las diferencias causadas por el distanciamiento social y la restricción del número de invitados. 

Nuevamente, nuestro objetivo será organizar los eventos de una manera segura para todos los participantes, con las mismas precauciones de salud de eficacia comprobada a las cuales estamos acostumbrados: controles de salud, cubiertas faciales, distanciamiento social, etc. Gracias a la colaboración de todos, el año pasado no vimos ninguna señal de que la enfermedad se haya propagado durante las ceremonias de graduación.

Este año volveremos a transmitir las ceremonias en vivo para las personas que no se sientan cómodas para asistir en persona y los familiares que no podrán llegar a los eventos.

Estamos en proceso de trabajar con nuestros compañeros de salud pública para obtener las variantes que necesitamos y ya hemos programado provisionalmente las ceremonias.

Generación de 2021, nos sentimos lo más orgullosos posible de ustedes y estamos entusiasmados de celebrar todos sus logros en mayo.
