Construction crews were busy across the district this summer in the third, and largest, summer construction season for the 2022 Building for Student Success program. These projects included CTE updates, athletic and playground improvements and the final phase of a brand new high school.

Improvements to career and technical education spaces expand and enhance opportunities for building career readiness

Renovations to support BVSD’s Accelerate program were completed at Casey Middle, Broomfield High, Boulder High, Louisville Middle, Monarch High, and Monarch K-8. Construction of a new CTE wing at Summit Middle is underway and will be completed in early 2026.

A guiding design principle with these renovations is to create learning spaces for students that are similar to what they might experience in college or real-world work environments.

Boulder High’s business classrooms were reconfigured and refreshed with furniture and finishes that emulate higher education and professional settings. The Panther TV broadcast studio is also being updated with industry-standard equipment. The culinary arts lab was updated with new cooktops, refrigerators, sinks and finishes. The school’s tech lab also got a makeover with new carpet, furniture and fixtures.

Renovations at Monarch High aim to support career pathways in Engineering, Culinary Arts, Exercise Science and Video Production. The school’s Davinci Lab was reconfigured and updated with new furniture and casework. The broadcast studio was relocated and enlarged, and the culinary arts lab and demonstration area was also expanded. A new Exercise Science program will be housed in the athletic training room which was expanded and will be furnished with built-in taping tables, mobile and adjustable treatment tables, and a large pull down mat table.

A fully transformed business classroom at Broomfield High features multiple, wall-mounted monitors for small group work; light-weight, movable furniture and ceiling mounted cable drops to create flexibility for reconfiguring the room; and a “pitch” room with a green screen.

The large-scale project to expand and enhance the program offerings at Apex is well underway. Over the summer, the first floor was renovated into a classroom suite to house the Biomedical and Criminology pathways. The area includes an open flex space and outdoor courtyard for both crime scene and emergency scenarios. The former second floor library has become a flex space and adjacent rooms will house counselors for Apex. The second floor also houses the new teacher academy.

Arapahoe Ridge High School has moved into newly remodeled space—also on the second floor—which includes classrooms, meeting spaces and administrative offices.

Next up, the front entrance will get a new look and the administrative offices and foyer will be reconfigured to refresh the space and create an area to host industry partners. Across the corridor, a new medical careers space is being created for BioMed, Physical Therapy/Sports Medicine, Medical Assisting and Pharmacy Tech. This project will continue through the summer of 2026.

Athletic Improvements

Work this summer continued to refresh and improve facilities for BVSD high school athletes across the district. The second phase of Eagle stadium’s renovation at Broomfield High was completed with the construction of additional restrooms, installation of a new pressbox, bleachers, and lighting. A new track and field were installed last summer.

At Monarch High, the Coyotes are enjoying a newly resurfaced track and tennis courts, along with a new field. The marching band also has an auxiliary place to practice on the resurfaced parking lot that was striped to mimic the markings on a football field.

New Vista wrapping up

The final phase of the New Vista High School project is nearly complete. Around the school—which students and staff moved into over Winter Break last school year—crews have constructed an outdoor classroom, a turf field (striped for ultimate frisbee and lacrosse), a student garden, bike racks and parking, including four EV charging stations. Over 100 trees have been planted on the site and much of the area is landscaped with native plants.

Although the project will be wrapped up in November, there is one more task to be completed. Early next year, a 284 KW array of solar panels will be installed on the roof. The system is anticipated to offset around 98% of the building’s energy use and will push BVSD toward our goal to reduce overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 14% by 2026 and become carbon neutral by 2050.

Save the date for a New Vista ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to be held Nov. 13!

Universal Playground improvements

BVSD continued our work to improve accessibility and play options for kids of all physical and cognitive abilities with playground renovation projects at seven schools this summer, including Aspen Creek PK-8, Coal Creek Elementary, Eldorado PK-8, Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer, Fireside Elementary, Monarch PK-8, and Ryan Elementary. The intent with these renovations is not only to improve access to the playgrounds for students with mobility differences and provide more accessible play options, but to make it easier for all students to play together with their peers. Features like large areas of solid surface material, wide ramps on play structures, interactive play panels, ground level spinners and gliders that accommodate walkers and wheelchairs make this possible.

While 16 schools were specifically identified to receive universal playground upgrades because of the students they serve, the design concepts are being applied to other playground projects as well. Learn more about the universal playground improvements here

None of these improvements would be possible without the generous support of our BVSD community. Learn more about the entire Bond program on our website
