As home learning is in full gear, BVSD has been seeking to build community and bring staff and students together in new and unique ways.

Art, Music and Movement are great ways to bring people together, even in a virtual world. To kick off this community building, BVSD is launching a collaborative art project, with ‘heart’ as the theme.

“We wanted to bring together students during this time apart and have a way for the community to express themselves through art,” says Aubrey Yeh, BVSD Coordinator of Language Arts and Humanities.

BVSD will be collecting art submissions through May 8. Students can create art around the theme of ‘heart’ using whatever materials they would like. They will then take a photo of the artwork and submit it through a Google form. The submissions will be used to create one collaborative piece.

“We are excited to bring together all the submissions and create one piece that represents the community. We aren’t sure exactly what that will look like, depending on the number submissions, but we look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with and combining it into a collaborative project,” says Yeh.

In addition to the collaborative art project, staff and teachers are exploring having  a collaborative music opportunity for students. Physical Education teachers are also working on creating content for the BV22 news station to offer other shared movement experiences in the virtual world.

"Our teachers are doing amazing work in finding ways to bring our community together during this time.” says Yeh.
