What to expect at the community engagement sessions

Community engagement sessions start next week and BVSD elementary and PK-8 families are encouraged to attend. This is your opportunity to learn more about the complexities of how declining enrollment—and the associated reduction in funding—is showing up in our schools, help us understand your values and priorities, and provide your thoughts about the options BVSD is considering.

Evening sessions are scheduled in Boulder, Louisville, and Broomfield, and during the day and on the weekend at the BVSD Education Center. Everyone is invited to attend any session that works for your schedule. However, discussions at sessions scheduled in each community will focus more on the challenges and most appropriate adjustment options for those communities.

The sessions will focus on what is happening at our elementary and PK-8 schools because that is where the impacts of declining enrollment are being felt most.

This is your opportunity to bring forward input that will shape the options for the Board to consider in August. These sessions are part of our commitment to engage with our community and listen before creating specific school adjustment options. The only decision that has been made so far is that BVSD cannot continue the status quo of operating a growing number of under-enrolled schools.

The sessions have been intentionally designed in a small group, workshop format to ensure all voices are heard. Participants will be introduced to several student and teacher profiles and hear about the different ways the impacts of declining enrollment show up throughout their day, such as not being able to visit with a school counselor when needed or taking advanced math online instead of in-person.

Attendees will then have the opportunity to talk about what student experiences they value the most. Also, through the sessions, participants will learn more about the different options BVSD is considering and be able to share their perspectives and feedback. The intent is to both help our community understand the challenges of declining enrollment and provide a forum to allow all voices to share their insights and perspectives about the ways the District might respond.

Light snacks, child supervision, and interpretation will be provided. If you plan to attend, please let us know via this form, to help with our planning.

We hope to see you there!
