Athletic practices resume on June 15 with health precautions

Athletics and activities have been suspended since March to help the slow the spread of COVID-19, but now that restrictions are starting to be lifted, BVSD is resuming practices.

With restrictions lifting, the Boulder Valley School District has been working with our partners in public health, as well as the Colorado High School Activities Association, to receive permission and guidance, so that athletics and activities can resume practices.

BVSD returned to athletics on Monday June 15. With new developments, all other sports and activities will be allowed to resume practices during the week of June 22.

The health and wellness of student-athletes and coaches remains BVSD’s highest priority. All programs will be required to comply with Boulder County’s Health Guidelines, which currently include the following:

  • Screening protocols for all student-athletes and coaches
  • Students and coaches who are sick must stay home and report the illness
  • Students will be assigned a group and expected to stay within that group
  • Sanitation of hands when entering field and practice areas
  • Face masks/coverings will be required, unless physical distancing of at least six feet is maintained
  • No sharing of personal items, such as sunscreen, water bottles, electronic devices or food
  • Equipment used during practice must be wiped down during the session, before and after each practice
  • Everyone is encouraged to avoid clustering before or after practices and to use every other parking spot to keep social distancing
  • Until July 1, all activities must be conducted outside. No use of indoor facilities.

It is also important to note that all participation is voluntary. No student or coach will be required to participate for any reason.

Self-Screening pilot
Beginning on Wednesday, Broomfield High School will pilot an at-home self-screening process. Students will record their data into a google form.  After doing so, they can report directly to their field of participation.  An in-person screening site, will be available to students wanting or needing to be screened in person.

At-home screening expands the capacity to manage participants. Once implemented, over the next few weeks, schools would have the opportunity to resume all athletics and activities including spirit squads, marching bands and others.
