Most Boulder Valley School Students Return Wednesday

As in past years, the Boulder Valley School District will welcome its nearly 30,000 students back on two days:

Tomorrow: Wednesday, August 17: Kindergartners-5th graders, 6th graders and 9th graders.
Thursday, August 18: 7-8th graders and 10th-12th graders

Below are events planned at BVSD schools for Back to School on Wednesday, August 17. Media is welcome. Please notify if you are planning to attend.

  • Boulder High School - Freshman gauntlet - 8:15 a.m.
  • Casey Middle - Sixth grade fireside chat with Admin/counselors in the auditorium 11:00 – 11:20 a.m., Lunch (360 Leaders eat with 6th Graders)  - 11:25 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.
  • Centaurus High - 9th Grade Welcome and orientation day -  Begins at 8:35 a.m. Gauntlet roughly 9 a.m.
  • Emerald Elementary - Music and photo backdrop - 7:25 - 7:50 a.m.
  • Meadowlark PK-8 - Parade from sports field through archway, and into building - 8:30 a.m.
  • Monarch High - 9th-grade Gauntlet. - 8:35 a.m.
  • Nederland Elementary - Ceremonial bell ringing - 9:30 a.m.
  • Nederland Middle Senior High - All School lunch 11:30 - 12:30 p.m.
  • Platt Middle - 6th grade Gauntlet -  8:45 a.m.

While, in most cases, all elementary students return on Wednesday, at the secondary level only the first grade at each level (6th and 9th) attend on the first day, to give those students an opportunity to get to know the school, before the remainder of the student body returns.

It is important to mention that Back to School Wednesday is NOT a Late Start in BVSD.

Also, we encourage everyone to be careful as students return to school. Please take it slow, especially in school zones and adhere to speed limits and bus lights and signage, so that everyone can make their way to and from school safely.
