BVSD is thrilled to be selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) 2024-2025 Energy Champions Leading the Advancement of Sustainable Schools (Energy CLASS) program. BVSD joins 60 other local educational agencies (LEAs) in this initiative which aims to equip selected agencies with the training and support necessary to develop and implement strategies that enhance energy efficiency, foster healthier learning environments, and optimize costs within their school districts.
The program, which offers a wealth of resources, training sessions, and personalized expert guidance tailored to align with each LEA’s sustainability objectives, launched in November. Over the next six months, participants will delve into topics such as strategic energy management and capacity building, project development, stakeholder engagement, and funding pathways, while also collaborating with their peers in the Energy CLASS network to share resources and insights.
The 2024-2025 cohort reflects a diverse collection of school districts across the country, serving over 1.7 million students across 2,922 schools in 31 states. BVSD was the only district in Colorado selected for this round, and staff are looking forward to being part of this program. In conjunction with this announcement, BVSD was also invited to be part of the DOE’s Better Climate Challenge.
