Learning environments are getting better in all BVSD communities
BVSD has made significant progress investing bond funds to support students and protect taxpayer assets

The Building for Student Success capital improvement program generously supported by voters in 2014 has been underway for three years. To date, nearly $300 million has been invested in improving learning environments and protecting assets at schools in all BVSD communities. A total of 39 projects are in progress or finished. Approximately 46.3 percent of the work is complete, including the new Meadowlark School in Erie and replacement buildings for Creekside and Douglass elementary schools in Boulder and Emerald Elementary in Broomfield.

Every BVSD school will benefit from the program, including the opportunity to use a portion of the project budget to create updated, innovative learning spaces. These projects are driven by BVSD’s Innovation Guiding Principles which are pushing a district-wide shift in our approach to instruction. With these innovation funds, schools get the opportunity to think creatively about how the learning environment can support 21st Century instruction.

The majority of the work in the Educational Facilities Master Plan aims to repair and replace worn out systems and equipment. Much of this work takes place out of sight above the ceilings and in mechanical rooms, however, it represents a significant investment in bond funds. Work such as roof repair, door and window replacement, and HVAC system improvements will extend the useful life of buildings, protecting taxpayer investment. Renovations such as new paint, carpet, lighting, ceiling tiles and restroom upgrades go a long way toward improving the look and feel of our schools.

Projects are making schools safer, healthier, and more comfortable with security enhancements, as well as heating, ventilation, and cooling system improvements. In addition, with the renovations BVSD also is making great strides toward its aggressive energy efficiency goals. BVSD is predicting a 62 percent energy efficiency improvement in the projects underway so far.
