Attendance Area Boundary Changes
Latest News
At its meeting on Sept. 23, the Board voted to approve proposed adjustments to school attendance area boundaries to take effect beginning in the 2026-27 school year. The Board action also gives students currently enrolled in the impacted schools the option to remain through completion of the school level.
In the coming weeks, BVSD staff will reach out to families in the affected areas to discuss their options and support them with the transition.
Background
In accordance with Board Policy JC, the Board of Education will review school attendance area boundaries every five years, beginning in 2025. School attendance boundaries play a critical role in supporting the district’s long-term planning efforts. Specifically, attendance boundaries are designed to:
-
Foster balanced enrollment among schools in order to support high-quality learning experiences for all students
-
Ensure efficient use of district resources, including facilities, transportation, and staffing
-
Support effective transportation planning
-
Maintain community and neighborhood cohesion
-
Enable thoughtful long-range planning
The Board of Education reviewed Policy JC at meetings in January, March, May, and September and the discussed the proposed boundary adjustments that were made on Sept. 23, 2025.
Adopted Boundary Changes
At this time, the Board is only making changes that affect students in Boulder schools.
Boulder Area Changes
- Reassign a non-contiguous “bubble” within Whittier Elementary’s attendance area that is currently assigned to Creekside Elementary to Whittier
- Convert the Bear Creek/Creekside dual attendance area west of Broadway and north of Table Mesa to Bear Creek only
-
Adjust the attendance boundaries so that all Whittier Elementary students are assigned to Casey Middle School, and the northern portion of the Creekside Elementary attendance area is assigned to Manhattan Middle School. The southern area of Creekside Elementary would continue to be assigned to Southern Hills Middle School.
Several middle school boundary adjustments have been adopted which will clean-up the attendance area maps but currently would not affect any students.
- Coal Creek/Platt/LMS map clean-up The Coal Creek attendance area is split between Platt Middle School and Louisville Middle School. The middle school boundaries would be adjusted to reassign all of Coal Creek to LMS. There are currently no middle school students living in the area. View a map of this change.
- Eisenhower/Manhattan/Platt map clean-up Eisenhower Elementary is split between Manhattan and Platt. The proposed change would adjust the middle school boundary to reduce the area that is assigned to Platt. This move will clean-up the map to reinforce Manhattan as Eisenhower's primary middle school, except where students are in close proximity to Platt. There are no students currently living in the area and only one house. This move would clean-up the map and would also better align with high school feeders. View a map of this change.
- Dual Bear Creek/Creekside/Manhattan/Southern Hills map clean up The Bear Creek/Creekside dual area is assigned to Manhattan and Southern Hills and Boulder High. The change would assign all of the area to Southern Hills and Fairview. There are no students living in the area, nor are there any houses. The change only cleans up the map to better align with middle school and high school feeders. View a map of this change.
