Adopted changes to the Whittier Elementary and Creekside Elementary Attendance Area Boundaries
As part of the BVSD Board of Education’s regular review of attendance area boundaries, it adopted an attendance boundary adjustment to the Whittier/Creekside attendance areas at its Sept. 23, 2025 meeting.
This change was proposed during the Board of Education’s review of attendance area boundaries this spring, with discussions taking place during work sessions on March 11, May 20, and Sept. 9, 2025.
DETAILS
For Whittier and Creekside elementary schools, the change reassigns a small, disconnected “bubble” within the Whittier attendance area from Creekside to Whittier. Reassigned students living within this area would be eligible for bus transportation to Whittier.
Students living in this area will also be affected by a change at the middle school level, which moves the Casey Middle School attendance area boundary to encompass all of the Whittier attendance area. Students living in this area are not eligible for bus transportation to Casey. Learn more about the middle school boundary change here.
This area will continue to be assigned to Boulder High.
These changes will be effective beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
Boundary Change Maps
These changes allow for the following exception:
- All students enrolled at Creekside Elementary in the 2025-26 school year have the choice to remain at Creekside through 5th grade. Bus transportation would not be provided for students who choose to remain at Creekside.
BVSD staff will contact families in the Fall of 2025 to explain the options and support them with updating their enrollment.
WHY MAKE THIS CHANGE?
This proposal is guided by a couple of core principles, including:
- Fostering community and neighborhood cohesion
BVSD believes there is value in supporting neighborhood-based relationships as students move through the school grades. This small neighborhood is currently assigned to Creekside, but is otherwise surrounded by the Whittier attendance area. Reassigning this area will give students in the neighborhood the opportunity to attend school with other students from the Whittier neighborhood. Additionally, another boundary change at the middle school level will assign all of Whittier Elementary’s attendance area to Casey Middle so that all neighborhood students move together to the same middle school.
Currently, Whittier Elementary feeds into Casey and Manhattan middle schools. Creekside Elementary feeds into Casey, Manhattan, and Southern Hills middle schools. This change assigns all Whittier students to Casey and reduces the number of middle schools that Creekside is assigned to from three to two.
- Maximization of pedestrian access to schools, and efficient use of transportation
With the change, students living in this area will be within walking distance of Casey Middle School, giving them the opportunity to walk to school with neighborhood peers. BVSD’s Safe Routes to School team has resources to support students with walking to school safely.
