Connecting with our community on this important topic
Before developing specific proposals for reconfiguring schools at the elementary or PK-8 level, we know is important to hear from our community—families, staff, and community members—about their values and priorities for their students and schools. Over the past several months, BVSD has reached out to connect with our community in a variety of different ways on this important topic.
On June 9, the Board held a work session to discuss the feedback from the community engagement efforts.

Community Engagement Sessions
BVSD held seven Community Engagement Sessions focused on the challenges of declining enrollment in BVSD.
Conversations focused on our elementary and PK-8 schools because that is where the impacts of declining enrollment are being felt most.
Participants learned how these changes are beginning to impact our classrooms, asked questions, and shared their priorities and values. The input collected will help inform the decisions the Board of Education will make this fall.
Food, child care and Spanish interpretation were available at all sessions.

Resilient Schools Survey
In May, BVSD invited staff, parents, and community members to participate in an online survey to share their thoughts about their values and priorities for the Board to consider as the district moves forward with planning for reconfiguring schools in response to declining enrollment. The district received over 5,000 responses to the survey.
