Broomfield Heights

"Well, all good things must come to an end!”, this is surely ringing true for me as I wrap up my teaching career of almost 30 years! This is a quote I believe to be true and words to live by; enjoying every moment and accepting changes necessary in life. I have used it frequently during my 20 years of teaching in BVSD - 1 year of teaching K-5 Literacy at Kohl Elementary and finishing up with 19 years teaching 6th grade Reading and Transitions at Broomfield Heights Middle School. I had previously taught for 10 years doing K-5 Chapter I Reading and Math in Adams 50 School District. I have been fortunate to work in an extraordinary community such as Broomfield, where I live, raised my family, and worked. The community of educators, families, and students in this area is second to none and have helped me grow, adapt, and change with the times. I have developed many lifelong friendships with those I have taught, taught with, and taught their children or family members! I pride myself in having maintained high standards and accountability for all students, albeit a struggle as times change over the years, but also guiding them through those struggles to become the best person and student they could be with lasting impact. I spent many years at BHMS as a 6th grade Team Leader, LA/ Reading Department Chair, 360 Teacher/Coordinator, PEN Teacher Representative, BVEA Representative, various other committees, as well as having worked on (before they were called task forces!) District Reading Curriculum Development, READ Team, and District Writing Assessments. The end HAS come, and my teaching career HAS been good, actually GREAT! I look forward to many more “good things” as I enter retirement!

Kohl Elementary

Susan and Kim, The students, families, and staff at Kohl Elementary thank you for your many years of dedicated service to our school community. We honor you and wish you well in your retirement. You are Forever COLTS!
