Substitutes

• Earn an extra $100 for every 10 full-day assignments completed on Monday and/or Friday.
• Applies to any position* 
• Half-day assignments can be combined to equal full day (i.e. two half-day assignments = one full-day credit)
• Bonuses will be paid monthly, and tracking of these assignments is automatic, excluding summer assignments.

*Excludes long-term substitute assignments unless in a hard-to-fill assignment

• Earn $1,000 for every 30 full-day assignments completed
• Assignments do not have to be consecutive 
• Half-day assignments can be combined to equal full day (i.e. two half-day assignments = one full-day credit)
• Bonuses will be paid monthly, and tracking of these assignments is automatic, excluding summer assignments.
• Only eligible for assignments that cover a licensed teacher on student contact days.

• Earn $200 for every 10 full-day assignments completed in the following roles:
  • ILC Teachers (Identified as SPECIAL ED INTENSIVE in SmartFind)
  • SPED Paraeducators (Identified as SPED PARA ILC/ICAN and SPECIAL ED PARA in SmartFind)
  • Pre-K Paraeducators (Identified as PRE-K PARA in SmartFind)
  • Pre-K Enrichment (Identified as PRESCHOOL ENRICHMENT in SmartFind)
  • Effective October 27, 2025: Dual Language Licensed (at locations Columbine, Pioneer, Sanchez, University Hill)
• Half-day assignments can be combined to equal full day (i.e. two half-day assignments = one full-day credit)
• Bonuses will be paid monthly, and tracking of these assignments is automatic, excluding summer assignments.

Let's say you work 30 full-day assignments including:

• 12 days that fall on a Monday or Friday
• 10 days in a Hard-to-Fill role

Your bonus would be:

1. $1,000 (Monthly Commitment Bonus)
2. $100 (Monday and Friday Bonus)
3. $200 (Hard-to-Fill Assignment Bonus)

Total: $1,300 paid after the 15th of the month, NOT on your monthly paycheck

IMPORTANT NOTE - Substitute incentives are processed ONLY after the eligible substitute days have been worked and officially compensated (paid).

Eligibility is reviewed after the 10th of each month, using all paid, qualifying days from the previous pay periods. Pay periods and dates are listed on the Payroll website at staff.bvsd.org/departments/payroll.

Newly eligible substitutes will receive their bonus around the 15th of the month following payment of their assignments.

Loyalty Milestone Bonus

• After every 90-day assignments worked, earn an additional $500

Professional Development Stipend

• After 20-day assignments worked, you can attend one paid Professional Development (PD) workshop per semester
• These workshops will focus on areas like classroom management, special education, or topics aligned with the BVSD's strategic plan.
• You will receive a stipend equal to your daily rate for attending.
