What's Filtered, By Grade Tier
This is the actual category list behind GoGuardian Admin, the layer described on the How Filtering Works page. Tap a category below to see how it's handled at each grade tier. A few categories are blocked district-wide and can't be adjusted by a teacher; those are marked with a lock. For everything else, a teacher can override a block in their own classroom when a lesson calls for it.
This list isn't a perfect guarantee of what will or won't load on a given site. See About the category list for why.
Sites that are uncategorized
Some sites are blocked even though they don't appear in any category below. GoGuardian classifies millions of websites, but a site has to be known before it can be classified. A newly published or obscure site often has no established reputation yet, meaning GoGuardian hasn't seen enough of it to know what kind of site it is. Those sites are labeled "uncategorized," and BVSD blocks them by default rather than letting anything unrecognized through.
Why we do it: unknown sites can be where new phishing pages, malware hosts, and throwaway proxy sites live. They're new precisely because they haven't been caught yet. Blocking by default means a brand-new malicious site is stopped before anyone has had a chance to classify it, and it also catches sites that would turn out to be inappropriate once someone actually reviews them.
The tradeoff: this also catches legitimate sites, like a small business, an educational tool, or a college application portal. That's the cost of the safer default, and it's the single most common reason a site you'd expect to work doesn't.
What to do about it: a teacher can override an uncategorized site in class right away. If it's a site that will get used repeatedly, that's a signal to send it to Information Security so it can be allowed permanently instead of overridden day after day.

Qué se filtra, por nivel de grado
Esta es la lista real de categorías de GoGuardian Admin, la capa que se describe en la página Cómo funciona el filtrado. Toca una categoría abajo para ver cómo se maneja en cada nivel de grado. Algunas categorías están bloqueadas en todo el distrito y un maestro no puede cambiarlas; esas aparecen marcadas con un candado. En todas las demás, un maestro puede hacer una excepción en su propio salón cuando la lección lo requiere.
Esta lista no es una garantía perfecta de lo que cargará o no en un sitio determinado. Consulta Sobre la lista de categorías para saber por qué.
Sitios sin clasificar
Algunos sitios están bloqueados aunque no aparezcan en ninguna categoría de abajo. GoGuardian clasifica millones de sitios web, pero para clasificar un sitio primero hay que conocerlo. Un sitio nuevo o poco conocido a menudo todavía no tiene una reputación establecida, es decir, GoGuardian no lo ha visto lo suficiente como para saber de qué tipo de sitio se trata. Esos sitios se etiquetan como «sin clasificar», y el BVSD los bloquea de forma predeterminada en lugar de dejar pasar cualquier cosa desconocida.
Por qué lo hacemos: los sitios desconocidos pueden ser el lugar donde viven las nuevas páginas de phishing, los servidores de malware y los sitios proxy desechables. Son nuevos precisamente porque aún no los han detectado. Bloquearlos de forma predeterminada significa que un sitio malicioso recién creado se detiene antes de que alguien haya tenido oportunidad de clasificarlo, y también detecta sitios que resultarían inapropiados una vez que alguien los revisa.
La desventaja: esto también bloquea sitios legítimos, como el de un pequeño negocio, una herramienta educativa o un portal de solicitud universitaria. Ese es el costo de una configuración más segura, y es la razón más común por la que un sitio que esperabas que funcionara no lo hace.
Qué hacer al respecto: un maestro puede desbloquear un sitio sin clasificar de inmediato durante la clase. Si es un sitio que se va a usar repetidamente, esa es una señal para enviarlo a Seguridad de la Información y que se permita de forma permanente en lugar de desbloquearlo día tras día.
