official Seal of Climate Literacy

Advocating for a Sustainable Future is Essential

The Seal of Climate Literacy @BVSD is for all students who show a commitment to sustainability, the environment and climate literacy over time. This Seal is offered by the State of Colorado and includes components determined by the state paired with additional greenBVSD components. While the Seal is not one of the 4 Grad+ quadrants, it is valued and does overlap with the Grad+ initiatives while leveraging BVSD partner relationships. Earning the Seal of Climate Literacy can help set you apart in your future college and career paths.

Purpose for offering the Seal of Climate Literacy in BVSD

We are committed to motivating and encouraging every student with a high school preparation program leading to graduation and college and career readiness. We seek to create the environment where:

  • Students contribute to achievement of our BVSD sustainability and Green New Deal goals.

  • Students participate in BVSD Grad + programming.

  • Instruction and experiences are engaging, experiential, interdisciplinary, and purposeful. Learning in BVSD focuses on the convergence of disciplinary learning to take action related to climate and environment through health, equity, and sustainability lenses.

  • Climate literacy is part of providing culturally relevant and accessible instruction to engage and meet the needs of students. Consistent with BVSD’s commitment to equity, these learning experiences shall consider the disproportionate impact of climate change and emphasize equitable solutions.

  • Students are equipped with the academic, technical, and real world knowledge, skills and experience they need:

    • To be prepared for designing a sustainable future as sustainability champions.

    • To choose from a variety of green jobs.

    • To face the challenges and issues students are and will be facing in their lives with hope and action.

    • To be empowered to take action and participate in civic and work life.

  • The demand for employees to be fluent in climate literacy and sustainability practices is high and increasing in Colorado and throughout the world.
