In previous years, we have had over 40 BVSD schools register, the most in the state of Colorado!

Fill out this form for our Safe Routes to School team. A member of our team will contact you about fulfilling your requests.

If your school would like to participate in a Ride and Stride (where bused kids get dropped off at a satellite location to get the chance to walk to school too) here is what you need to know:

• Only schools with BVSD bus transportation are eligible

• You must get your principal's approval

• You will need to recruit some volunteers to meet the students and walk with them.

• You need to determine a suitable location for the buses to drop off kids.

• Confirm with your school whether students with special needs will participate.  Confirm if preschool classes will participate.

• Contact SafeRoutes@bvsd.org or complete the Walk to School Day survey.

Yes, feel free to organize your event on a different day in October.

A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. If that sounds simple, it is, and that’s part of the beauty of the walking school bus. It can be as informal as a few families walking their children to school together to as structured as a route with meeting points, a timetable and a regularly rotated schedule of trained volunteers. Many of our schools will be hosting used shoe drives in conjunction with Walk and Roll to School Day.

It’s that time of the year again where your students and families can clear out their closets and donate their gently used shoes to be re-worn by others around the world. 

The Used Shoe Collection will take place the week of October 1 - 17, 2023. 

The Used Shoe Collection, in partnership with Eco-Cycle/City of Boulder Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRM), is an opportunity for the BVSD community to re-purpose shoes during the week of Walk and Roll to School Day. Donated shoes will be sorted by Eco-Cycle staff members and sent to Soles4Souls, another non-profit organization, who will redistribute the shoes to be used by members of less fortunate communities around the world. Since 2006, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 50 million pairs of shoes in 129 countries. Soles4Souls utilizes new and gently used shoes as a resource to help entrepreneurs in developing nations with an opportunity to start and sustain small businesses (4Opportunity) of their own.  Learn more at soles4souls.org.

Guidelines of the Used Shoe Collection

Accepted: New or gently used shoes off all kinds.

Not Accepted: Dirty, ripped, or torn shoes.

Please:

• Pair and drop clean shoes in the marked boxes.
• Tie or band the pairs.
• Avoid putting the shoes in a plastic bag.  

Unusable shoes are NOT being recycled and will go to the landfill.  Please make sure all donated shoes are in useable condition and can be upcycled to others.
