Science

student doing science

Science learning in BVSD is 3-Dimensional, phenomena-based and grounded in a classroom culture that supports sense-making for all students. Science standards integrate three strands - Core Disciplinary Ideas, Science and Engineering Practices and Crosscutting Concepts into each Performance Expectation. Students know science ideas, do the practices of science & engineering and make connections between concepts to engage deeply with the natural world.

  • Learning experiences are centered around Authentic Phenomena and Problems - about which students wonder, notice, question, investigate, model and explain.
  • Students do the bulk of the thinking, talking and sense-making in science classrooms in order to nurture curiosity and drive learning.
  • Science in BVSD prepares students to solve current and future problems using creativity, communication, collaboration, inquiry and flexibility—that will serve them throughout their educational and professional lives.

The standards and aligned instructional practices foster learning experiences that are challenging, engaging, relevant and meet the needs of all students.
