The Educational Facilities Master Plan called for air conditioning to be installed in eight schools. These schools were selected because they had been especially hard to keep cool or because they serve high needs populations with extended summer learning programs. Over the course of the Bond Program, project savings and contributions from other sources such as the City and County of Broomfield and Xcel rebates, made it possible to install air conditioning in all buildings with the exception of the mountain schools. This is a significant accomplishment that dramatically improves the learning environment and resolves an issue the district has struggled with for decades.

The Halcyon School houses the district’s day-treatment program which gives students access to their education while also providing therapeutic behavioral interventions and strategies. The Bond program replaced most of a decades-old structure with a nearly 15,000 square foot new building that was intentionally designed with trauma-informed features to meet the needs of the program and create a safe, comfortable space for students. The new building honors the historical architecture of the original building and neighborhood and features separate elementary and secondary wings along with administrative spaces, a cafeteria/multi-purpose room, small group rooms, and outdoor recreation spaces. Special Education rooms in many other BVSD schools were also renovated in a variety of ways to improve functionality and comfort for the students and staff that use them.

Students and community members alike will have more opportunity for exercising outside on new artificial turf fields installed at six BVSD middle schools. Because they are more durable than natural grass, the artificial fields provide more play time each day and throughout the year. The fields also use less water and chemicals and require less maintenance than natural grass.
