A Taste of BVSD - Saturday, Oct. 28

Join us for a festival of fall, food and fun!

Boulder Valley School District’s School Food Project is excited to host its annual community event this Saturday, October 28 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) at Louisville Middle School (1341 Main St, Louisville, CO 80027). The festival will showcase samples of BVSD’s delicious, scratch-cooked entrees and sides. Thanks to input and feedback from parents and students, the School Food Project added a whopping 16 new lunch entrees to the lunch menu this year. This event is an opportunity for families to see, smell and taste what real school food in BVSD schools is all about. BVSD chefs and dietitians will be available to answer questions about the food and School Food Project programs.

A Taste of BVSD will feature booths from BVSD farmer partners Jones Farms Organics and Kilt Farms, plus games, giveaways and more from CU’s Museum of Natural History, Community Food Share, Growing Gardens, E Movement, Life Time Fitness and The Kitchen Community. Together the School Food Project and community partners like these are working hard to promote farm-to-school initiatives, healthy eating and active living. Other festival activities will include pumpkin painting, a spin the wheel trivia game about local food, as well as hands-on learning experiences related to the School Food Project’s two big initiatives: food waste and reduced sugar.

During the festival, BVSD School Food Project will also host three rounds of their annual Iron Chef Competition for BVSD elementary students. Fifteen teams of elementary school students from around the district will show off their culinary creativity as they compete to create a healthy after-school snack using ingredients from a pantry provided. Teams will be judged by students, Food Services district managers and Food Services Director Chef Ann Cooper.

Sponsored by the Lifetime Foundation and Lucky’s Market, A Taste of BVSD is a fantastic way to celebrate the season and kids getting real with local food!

Media are invited to attend the event in the Louisville Middle School cafeteria 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and observe the Iron Chef Competition 10-11:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m., and 1:30-3 p.m
