BOULDER - Students at Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colorado, will have the opportunity to talk with NASA Astronaut and Centaurus alumnus Jack Fischer, while he is circling high above the Earth in the International Space Station.
International Space Station Downlink with Centaurus High School
Where: Centaurus High School, 10300 W. South Boulder Road in Lafayette
When: Thursday, August 31, 9:35 a.m. - 9:55 a.m.
The ISS Expedition 51/52 flight engineer and Air Force colonel graduated from Centaurus in 1992.Fischer earned his Bachelor of Science in Astronautical Engineering at the Air Force Academy and received a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Fischer is expected to answer several questions from students at Centaurus. One of the expected topics discussed will be an experiment that Centaurus students crafted, which was recently conducted on the ISS. It investigated the growth of bacteria in space, something that may have real-life implications during future long-term missions.
Fischer launched to the space station in April 2017. He is expected to return to Earth next week.
