Join Us at A Taste of BVSD for a festival of fall, food and fun!

Saturday, October 27 (10am-3pm) at Meadowlark School in Erie

The Boulder Valley School District’s School Food Project is hosting its annual community event 10am-3pm this Saturday, October 27 at Meadowlark School (2300 Meadow Sweet Lane, Erie, Colorado 80516).

During the festival, the BVSD School Food Project will host three rounds of their annual Iron Chef Competition for BVSD elementary students. Fifteen teams of elementary school students from around the district will show off their culinary creativity as they compete to create a healthy afterschool snack using ingredients from a provided pantry. Teams will be judged by students, Food Services District Managers and Food Services Director Chef Ann Cooper.

Media are invited to attend the event in the Meadowlark School cafeteria 10am-3pm and observe the Iron Chef Competition 10-11:30am, 11:45-1:15pm, and 1:30-3pm.

The festival will showcase samples of BVSD’s delicious, scratch-cooked entrees and sides. Everyone is invited to try samples of our Chili Smothered Baked Potato, Falafel & Hummus Flatbread with Creamy Cucumbers, Veggie & Tofu Ramen, Baja Fish Tacos, Tomato Bisque with Toasted Cheese Sandwich, Meat Lovers’ Lasagna, Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich with Housemade Bread & Butter Pickles, and Autumn Wild Rice Broccoli Salad. This event is an opportunity for families to see, smell and taste what real school food in BVSD schools is all about. BVSD chefs and dietitians will be available to answer questions about the food and School Food Project programs.

The event will also feature activities and games for all ages from local farmers, vendors and community partners, and pumpkin painting hosted by program sponsor, Lucky’s Market. Together, the School Food Project and community partners like Slow Food Boulder County, Community Food Share, Growing Gardens, and Jones Farms Organics are working hard to promote farm-to-school initiatives, healthy eating and active living.

A Taste of BVSD is a fantastic way to celebrate the season and kids getting real with local food!
