The Operational Services Department oversees the maintenance and operations of the 4.8 million square feet of Boulder Valley School District facilities as well as the safety and security of staff and students and daily transportation. It includes the following departments:

Building for Student Success

The bond-funded Building for Student Success program is responsible for executing the capital improvement projects described in the Educational Facilities Master Plan. The projects will provide much-needed improvements to buildings’ systems, structures, and finishes as well as renovations to support innovative instructional practices. The master plan also calls for the construction of a new campus in Erie to serve grades preK-8 as well as the rebuild of three existing schools and renovation of the central support campus.

Environmental Services
BVSD's environmental technicians work to maintain indoor environmental quality by assuring BVSD complies with all Federal and state regulations concerning the presence of hazardous materials in schools.

The Facilities Services/Maintenance Department provides district-wide facilities and grounds maintenance services. These services include preventive maintenance; emergency and routine repairs for building structural, mechanical, electrical, intercom and alarm systems; site landscaping; and field maintenance. The maintenance department also does minor renovation and construction projects, as well as providing support for bond projects.

Planning and Engineering

The Planning and Engineering office is primarily responsible for analyzing enrollment trends and providing information related to enrollment projections, demographic trends, economic trends, school capacity and new housing constructions to assess future capital facility and programming needs. This office also manages school attendance boundaries, oversees the acquisition and disposal of BVSD real estate, and coordinates with other local governments on land use matters.

The Office of Sustainability oversees the work of the Sustainability Management System, which includes integrating sustainability into the areas of buildings (operations and construction), materials (from waste diversion to purchasing), transportation and education. This includes setting aggressive green building and energy efficiency design standards and supporting green teams District-wide. BVSD received the 2014 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools District Award.
