*NEW*

Rather than one presentation with one moderator over the intercom across all the rooms as in past years, each  room will have 3-4 adults in the following three roles. Team managers will fill most of these roles, but we would like to have backup volunteers.

  • one Proctor,
  • one Timekeeper,
  • the remaining adults will be Room Monitors.

Proctor

  • Be familiar with all of the books on the list for the level of your competition.

  • You will have time to review the questions. Read the questions beforehand so misreading will not be a problem. Be prepared for tiebreaker questions.

  • This person is the one who “runs” the Battle , asking questions and prompting the Team Captain to advance to the next question.

Timekeeper

  • Will use a stopwatch/digital timer to start time after each question is read and indicate when the 30 second time period has expired for each question.

Room monitors

  • Monitor all teams during the Battle, making sure team members are demonstrating good sportsmanship.

  • Ensure each team works on answers to the questions without outside help,

  • Verify that the Team Captain submits answers when directed after the 30 second time limit is announced by the timekeeper.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and communicate with the Battle of the Books coordinator if the schedule needs to shift to accommodate issues.

I so appreciate your energy and enthusiasm in volunteering for this event!

There will be a Virtual Volunteer Meeting in March to discuss roles and asked questions. If you have thoughts or ideas in the meantime, feel free to email me
