Step 1 - Choose Your Course
Discuss the College Before Graduation Program with your parent/guardian. Meet with your counselor to determine if the courses you want to take will work with your high school schedule. If you are not sure which courses to take, reach out to MSU for more direction on career pathways.
Step 2 - Apply to MSU
Complete the MSU Denver Application
- When you receive an acceptance email from MSU, you will receive a student ID# (900#). Save this email for future reference. It has steps for setting up an account and password which will allow you to access your Student Hub and Canvas.
Step 3: Complete CBG Agreement
Complete the BVSD District 'College Before Graduation Agreement' which must be submitted by you and your parent/guardian. After the form is submitted, staff in the CBG office will contact your counselor for approval. The CBG Agreement must to be completed every semester.

Step 4: Register for Classes
When steps 3 and 4 are complete, you will receive an email from the Career and College Connections office letting you know that you have been approved and what are the required next steps. Please email CareerandCollege@bvsd.org if you are close to the deadline to apply and you have not received an email. (Check your SPAM folder first) You are responsible for working with the college, registering for the approved course(s), and paying the appropriate tuition and/or fees.
Taking courses on a college campus has the extra challenge of transportation and scheduling. Students are responsible for transportation and parking. When traveling to a college campus consider the extra time involved with bus schedules, travel time, parking, and distance to class from parking or bus stop. Students are not allowed to leave early or arrive late to their high school classes. This includes block days. We suggest you find classes that are offered either first thing in the morning or late afternoon.
Turn in your course schedule to your high school counselor. Continue to communicate with your counselor and parents/guardian on your progress. We want you to be successful, so if you are struggling with the course, let us know early on so we can help you to find the support you need.
IMPORTANT
- Buy your textbooks and pay any of the required student fees.
- Login to Canvas on the first day of class, regardless when your class starts
- Remember to check your MSU email frequently.
- The course syllabus that the teacher provides lists all of the reading and course assignments. Check the syllabus daily to stay on top of what needs to be done. Also, when the class is finished, save the syllabus in an electronic file - you may need it when transferring the credit to a university!
Office of Disability Services & Student Support
If you have specific, individual needs (i.e. 504 or IEP), you must contact MSU's Office of Disability Services to learn about how your needs will be met. Accommodations provided at the high school may not be allowed as reasonable accommodations at the college level. Please do this as soon as possible so that accommodations are in place when classes start. For more information from the Colorado Department of Education please click here.
Student Support
MSU Denver Writing Center
The Writing Center is an amazing resource for students and they will help with any writing assignment at any stage of the writing process. Students can make an appointment or utilize their Doc Drop system.
Tuition and Student Fees
Students who complete all of the steps required to sign up (including authorizing COF) and who are approved, will have their tuition paid for by BVSD and the Colorado Opportunity Fund. BVSD will also pay the fees associated with the courses. If you would like assistance covering the cost of books, please contact CareerandCollege@bvsd.org.
