The transition to high school can be both exciting and nerve wrecking for parents and students. It is also a time when students become more independent. The high schools in BVSD have a wide selection of course offerings and opportunities and offer students guidance on their future goals. The below general resources will give you an overview of content area resources and supports as well as district programs targeted towards future success. The best resource, though, will be your school and counselor.

How do I check my student's grades?

Assignment and final term grades are viewable through the parent portal of Infinite Campus.

Parent Resources

At Boulder Valley School District, we aim to provide an innovative, whole-child approach to learning to aid in students’ development as problem-solvers in a scientific and technological world.

BVSD aims to provide a rich science and engineering experience at the secondary level by engaging students in developing and using models, analyzing and interpreting data, using mathematical and computational thinking, and engaging in argument through evidence with their peers.

BVSD seeks to provide many opportunities to build upon key underlying themes in science and engineering: cause and effect, stability and change, energy and matter, structure and function, and systems thinking.

BVSD offers a wide array of high school science classes from geology and biology to sustainability and infectious disease. You can find all high school science course options here. Not all courses are taught at every high school, so check with your school for the courses being offered.

Students in grade 11 take the CMAS science test.

You can find all the high school social studies courses here. Not all courses are offered at every school, so check with your school about what classes are being offered.

Visual Arts

Here at BVSD, we seek to embrace the whole child and nurture each and every student's abilities to create meaningful works of art. Authenticity (meaning 'real-world' in this case) is a strength of our program as well. We strive to get student's work displayed to the public in multiple forums throughout the city and state each year.

We take great pride in our expansive offering of Visual Arts classes throughout all levels of schools in this district, from the classical forms of art through to cutting edge 21st Century technological art classes. You can find all the arts courses here. Note not all courses are offered at every school.

BVSD offers over 30 Visual Arts classes at the high school level, with multiple challenging tracks

Art Shows

Every year Boulder Valley School District hosts at Art Show for students in Grades K-8 and a separate show for High School Students and BVSD teachers. These are great ways for students to show off their work in a public way and take pride in the beautiful art they've created. Explore the slideshows below to see some past art show work.

Under Colorado State Statute and BVSD Board of Education policy IGAE, if parents or guardians want to exclude their child from any portion or portions of health instruction on the grounds that is contrary to the religious beliefs and teachings or closely held personal beliefs of the student, parent or guardian, you may do so by completing the Health Education Program Parental Exclusion Request form IGAE-E. You can also see additional information about the excusal process by viewing the Excusal Procedure regulation IGAE-R.

Physical Education is much more than participating in physical activity. It is about learning how to be involved in ways that benefit you most. It is about exploring different opportunities, whether that be team sports, individual sports, or fitness-based activities. It’s about learning the physiology of the body and the impact on the brain and making good choices that lead to a long and healthy life.

“Wellness in Action” is the name of our high school comprehensive physical education course, but it is also the mission for Physical Education in Boulder Valley. Classes are designed to teach students about concepts in physical education and to coach them through the various skills needed in a wide variety of activity.
