Latinos in Action & Adelante!
Latinos in Action and Adelante! are leadership development and school support courses offered at the high school level, though some of the high school feeders have begun to provide these opportunities for younger students as well.
Latinos in Action (LIA) is a recent addition to the leadership development and youth engagement options at Boulder High School. LIA engages students to develop their personal assets, excellence in education, service and leadership. The college and career readiness curriculum used in the course is culturally responsive and aligned with Social Emotional Learning competencies. Support of the program ranges from middle school through high school and into college. College chapter students are LIA alumni and serve as mentors and leaders for current high school students exploring their post secondary options.
Originally focused on dropout prevention for first generation Latinx students, the Adelante! Program, offered at Boulder High School and Fairview High School, has grown into a college preparatory course supporting students to develop leadership and academic skills that assist them in achieving success in high school and beyond. Students and their families are included in college and career readiness efforts at the school level in order to build on students’ strengths and support them to break through the barriers that can limit their post secondary education options.
