Report Cards

BVSD uses the Teaching Strategies GOLD (TS GOLD) Development and Learning report card for preschool students. No changes were made to the preschool TS GOLD report card for the 2021-2022 school year. All TS GOLD objectives and dimensions on the preschool report card are aligned to the updated 2020 Colorado Academic Standards.

BVSD uses the Teaching Strategies GOLD (TS GOLD) Development and Learning report card for kindergarten students. This report card acts as both the state required kindergarten School Readiness Plan and our district report card. Additional objectives and dimensions were added to the kindergarten TS GOLD report card for the 2021-2022 school year in order to better align with the BVSD PK-12 Scope and Sequence, the updated 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, and other initiatives in the District’s Strategic Plan. All TS GOLD objectives and dimensions on the kindergarten report card are aligned to the updated 2020 Colorado Academic Standards.

In the 2021-2022 school year, all elementary schools transitioned to a quarter schedule. Report cards will be available at the end of quarters 2 and 4. For quarters 1 and 3, you will meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress at Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Parents will receive an informal progress report during quarters 1 and 3. This may look like a report on progress to parents or guardians, whether written in a format created by the teacher or school or delivered orally through a parent-teacher conference. Because schools choose how to communicate progress with families, you should reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions about your child’s progress.

TS GOLD report cards for PreK and Kindergarten will be sent home as a paper copy or by email.

• What do you like about school?

• Who do you enjoy playing with at school? 

• What do you like to play most at school? 

• What is something new that you have learned at school?

• What is something that you want to learn more about?

Questions to ask your teacher

• In what areas have you seen my child grow? How can I encourage this growth?

• What should be a goal for us to work on together? What ideas do you have to work towards this goal?

• What are my child’s strengths?

• How is my child doing socially and emotionally?

• Is there anything else I should know about how my child is doing? 

The elementary report card was revised in order to better align with the BVSD PK-12 Scope and Sequence, the updated 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, and other initiatives in the District’s Strategic Plan. During this realignment process, they were also updated to be more clear and concise for parents.

How to Access the 1st-5th Grade Report Card in IC

A standards based report card is designed to inform parents and guardians about how their child is progressing towards achieving the 2020 Colorado Academic Standards. These standards explain what students should know, understand, and be able to do and is what the BVSD PK-12 Scope and Sequence is based upon. Standards based report cards differ from traditional report cards in that they are based on a child’s proficiency in the standards. There is not a correlation between these two grading systems.

When your child receives an NA that means that a specific standard was not assessed during that quarter. Some standards are addressed all year long while others are addressed during specific units outlined in the PK-12 Scope and Sequence. By the end of the school year, all grade level standards will be addressed.

The BVSD Essential Skills were developed as a piece of the Strategic Plan. We believe that the development of these 8 core competencies throughout students’ PK-12 education will ultimately contribute to post graduate success, professionally and personally. Each BVSD instructional unit has teaching and observation opportunities of one or more of  the following essential skills: Awareness, Self Management, Empathy, Relationship Skills, Responsible Decision Making, Learner Mindset,  Advocacy and Global Citizenship.

• What was your favorite thing that you learned this quarter? Why?

• What are you most proud of on your report card?

• What can we do at home to help you meet your goals?

• What should be a goal for us to work on over the next few months? What ideas do you have to work towards this goal?

• What are my child’s strengths?

• How can I promote ______ at home? (ie: reading independently, developing science skills, practicing math facts, etc.)

• Are there any concerns you have about my child at this time?
