Update 4/9/24, 4:30 a.m. Power has been restored to Coal Creek Elementary, Gold Hill Elementary, Jamestown Elementary, Nederland Elementary, Nederland Middle-Senior High School, and Platt Middle School.
All BVSD schools will be open and operating on a normal schedule today, Tuesday, April 9.

Update 4/8/24, 7 p.m. BVSD has confirmed that power has been restored to Nederland Middle-Senior High School. Nederland Middle-Senior High School will be open and operating on a normal schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9.
Gold Hill and Jamestown Elementary remain without power at this hour.
According to Xcel Energy, there are damaged lines in the areas of Jamestown and Gold Hill, which are affecting their ability to restore power. We will continue to monitor the situation overnight.

Update 4/8/24, 4:50 p.m. Power has been restored at Nederland Elementary School. School will be open and operating on normal schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9.
Nederland Middle-Senior High School, Gold Hill and Jamestown schools are still without power as of now. BVSD is continuing to monitor those remaining mountain schools and will provide updates to those communities as available.
Update: 4/8/24, 3 p.m. We have received word that power has been fully restored to Coal Creek Elementary School and Platt Middle School. Both schools will be open and operating on a normal schedule tomorrow.
Meanwhile we are continuing to monitor Xcel Energy’s efforts to restore power to our mountain schools and will provide updates on this page as more information becomes available.

Update: 4/8/24, 4:30 a.m. Due to the continued power outages at Nederland Elementary, Nederland Middle-Senior High School, Gold Hill, Jamestown, Platt Middle School and Coal Creek Elementary School, school will be CLOSED today, Monday, April 8 at those schools. All before & after-school activities are canceled. There will be no remote learning.
This weekend’s wind event caused power outages throughout the BVSD community and at several of our schools. While power is continuing to be restored in locations across our district, Nederland Elementary, Nederland Middle-Senior High School, Gold Hill, Jamestown, Platt Middle School and Coal Creek Elementary School are still without power at this time and we do not expect it to return in time for normal operations by the start of school.
All other schools will be open and operating on their normal schedule today Monday, April 8.

Update: 4/7/24, 9:00 p.m. Within the last few hours, Xcel Energy crews have been making significant progress and power has been restored to many of our schools. It is a fluid situation, but as of this hour, power still has not been restored at the following seven schools:
- Coal Creek Elementary
- Eisenhower Elementary
- Nederland Elementary
- Nederland Middle-Senior High School
- Gold Hill Elementary
- Jamestown Elementary
- Platt Middle School
Our team will wake up early and assess the situation once more. If power hasn’t been restored we will notify families and staff at those schools (through phone, text and email messaging) as soon as possible.
We expect that all other schools will be open and operating on their normal schedule tomorrow, Monday, April 8.
Still, the following things may be a little different:
- Lunch will still be served, but options may not match the planned menu
- CMAS testing schedules may be adjusted
We ask everyone to have patience. Schools will be assessing the situations at their specific buildings and adjusting as needed, as well as extending courtesies to those impacted by the power outage.

Update: 4/7/24 6 p.m. We are receiving promising updates that power is coming back in different parts of the region.
At this time, according to the information we have, the following facilities are still without power:
- Arapahoe Ridge High School
- Coal Creek Elementary
- Eisenhower Elementary School
- Manhattan Middle School
- Nederland Elementary School
- Nederland Middle-Senior High School
- Nevin Platt Middle School
- Summit Charter Middle School
- Whittier Elementary School
We are still awaiting an update from Xcel Energy, but are checking in regularly with our partners at the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management.
We plan to have an update later this evening regarding any impact to BVSD schools.

April 7, 2024 at 3 p.m.: Areas of the Boulder Valley School District remain without power at this hour due to Xcel Energy outages caused by the high wind event. BVSD is awaiting word about the timeline for power restoration for schools in the impacted area.
As always, if any delays or closures become necessary, we will provide information here and via our emergency communication avenues.
As of the last update the following BVSD buildings are impacted by the outage:
- Arapahoe Ridge Campus (including Arapahoe Ridge High School, AALP:S, Boulder TEC, Boulder Universal and Transitions).

- BVSD Culinary Center
- Coal Creek Elementary
- Douglass Elementary
- Education Center
- BVSD Maintenance Building
- Eisenhower Elementary
- Manhattan Middle School
- Nederland Elementary
- Platt Middle School
- Summit Charter School
