Superintendent's Honor Roll

Virginia Schick, Art Teacher, Boulder High School
Outstanding teacher leader for the arts and NBCT program in BVSD

Virginia was nominated for Superintendent’s Honor Roll by Kate Villarreal, also a Fine Arts teacher at Boulder High, who wrote:
From planning our curriculum council meetings, induction of new teachers, planning and giving our professional development days Virginia gives a thorough, well thought out and innovative agenda every time. Virginia is a collaborator like no other. She encourages her students to do the same. I watch her students bloom before my eyes under her kind and reassuring guidance. Virginia's passion for the arts has enveloped our students into becoming top notch artists, and has improved the look and feel of Boulder High School by her committing student art work as a permanent installation in our hallways. Seeing students eating lunch in one of our 'gallery spaces' is such a thrill!
Virginia has for years taught a Portfolio 101 class for ALL students (including parents) in BVSD who are entertaining the idea of a future in the arts. She brought AP Studio Art into Boulder High and often meets her students on the weekends so that they can get in the extra studio time they need to produce the work needed for the class. Virginia is dedicated, creative, inventive and a gift to her many students.
Dr. Ron Cabrera, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services and Equity, added the following remarks about Virginia’s contributions to BVSD:
Besides being a leader at her school, Virginia exhibits leadership in leading, coordinating and supporting district teacher candidates in the rigorous National Board Certified Teacher program. For the past five years, Virginia has been leading district efforts for the program by providing training, coaching and mentoring sessions for teacher candidates. This year alone, with Virginia's support and encouragement, another 23 BVSD teachers earned Board Certification recognition. Being a Board Certified teacher herself, Virginia willingly mentors other teachers to be even more effective.
